2010 GTBAA Homecoming Guide
Event RegistrationIf you have not registered yet, please do so as soon as possible. If you register after October 5th, we will make every effort to include you, but there are no guarantees. When you arrive for the event on Friday, you will have an opportunity to purchase various GTBAA polos and t-shirts that you will need to wear on Saturday. They will be available on Saturday as well. We will not be able to mail anything in advance of the event. Please note that the ticket for the Surround Sounds concert at the Ferst Theater must be purchased through the Ferst Center box office. Event ParkingOn Friday Night, the best place to park is in the Student Center Parking Deck on Ferst. Parking here will be free on Friday Night. On Saturday, parking is more complicated. Parking for the tailgate, football game and other Saturday events is not included in the registration fee. Please note, all Georgia Tech parking areas are CLOSED for game day parking beginning six hours prior to game time. Game day parking is available at various pay lots around campus and in the Technology Square Parking Deck for $25 per vehicle. For more information on game day parking, please visit the GT Parking Gameday Parking Site or the Athletic Association Gameday Parking Site. Guests of the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center are strongly encouraged to leave their cars at the hotel. If you arrive earlier than 6 hours before gametime, you may find street parking on West Campus. Meters are not typically enforced on Gameday, but park at your own risk.
Event LocationsOn Friday we will be located at the Ferst Center Theater. The reception will be held in the lobby of the theater. On Gameday we will be located just adjacent to the Ferst Theater in the concrete performance shell for our meeting, rehearsal, and pre-game meal. If you need to borrow an instrument from the GT Band, we will have additional instructions for you.
Event ScheduleBecause television sets the actual Gameday schedule, we do not have precise times for our Gameday events. Please check this again 10 days before Homecoming when TV sets the game schedule. The basic order should remain unchanged. Friday Evening:
Saturday Gameday: Stay tuned for Game start time!
Game Notes Alumni Not Sitting with the Alumni Band: You may enter the stadium with the Alumni Band if you wish and join us for Pregame before returning to your seats. If you plan to perform with the Alumni Band on the field at Halftime you must make your way within the stadium to the North Stands where the Alumni will be sitting beside the GT Band BEFORE THE END OF THE 2ND QUARTER. After halftime you will be free to return to your seats. If you are not participating with the Alumni Band events for the day and you wish to walk out onto the field at halftime and be recognized, please make your way to the band area in the North Stands before the end of the 2nd quarter. You will be issued a field pass armband. Pregame: We will be performing with the GT Band at Pre-Game by forming the tunnel on the field. For this portion of the event, you will be permitted to bring your children under 12 on the field with you provided they are in your arms. We do not want a safety situation with children wandering into the way of the Wreck and a bunch of 300lb linemen. For this reason we have agreed that all children under 12 will be held (larger children do not need to be carried, just effectively restrained from wandering). Alumni Band In The Stands: We will be performing to the best of our ability with the current GT Band. They will be playing songs we have not rehearsed, but we should have music available on Gameday. For those worried about how you might sound, keep in mind that there are over 350 students and will only be 150-200 of us! Our seats are located next to the band just above the Swarm section of the students. Things may be a little chaotic at first, but we will attempt to organize things so that everyone is comfortable. Concessions are readily available for those who get thirsty, hungry, etc. Halftime: We will be sitting in the stands at halftime while the Marching Band performs. What to Wear It is important for us to look uniform at our performances at the Campanile, Marching down The Hill, and in the stadium. The adult uniform for the Alumni Band is either the white commemorative 100th Anniversary polo shirt from 2008 or the older gold GTBAA polos we have worn in past years, with khaki colored pants (they can be cargo pants, dress pants, whatever- so long as they are somewhat close to khaki colored). Non-Alumni members may also purchase the polo shirts separately at the morning rehearsal ($40,$25) or they may wear one of the other official GTBAA shirts (Gold T-Shirt - $7.50, Kids T-Shirt - $7.50), also available at the morning rehearsal. If for some unforseen reason you plan to march on the field and cannot wear the official commemorative polo, please wear a white shirt of some type. A note to those with childrens registration. Children will need to wear one of the GTBAA shirts, or something that would match the group from 50 feet away.
What About My Jackets, Purses, Backpacks, Etc.? We encourage you to bring as little as possible with you, and dress in layers under your polo so that you do not need to bring a jacket with you. Make sure you are warm/cool enough!. If you must bring a jacket, it needs to be a Tech colored jacket, preferably White or Gold rather than Navy to appear uniform (i.e. no red, green, orange, black, brown, etc.) and you will need to pack it away while we perform down the Hill, at the Campanile, or on the Field. If you must bring a bag, it will need to be a backpack so you can easily play while marching. We will not have a lockable storage at the morning rehearsal location- we suggest that you leave any personal items you will not be carrying (such as your instrument case) in your car. If you borrowed an instrument from the Couch Building, you will be able to leave personal items in a locked room there at your own risk.
What about Music? You can download music from the GTBAA website by clicking on the download link in the left sidebar AFTER you have registered with the site (separate from Homecoming registration, though you probably registered at that time as well). You must register and agree to the terms before you may download the PDF containing your part. PLEASE PRINT OUT AND BRING THIS MUSIC WITH YOU TO HOMECOMING.
What about Instruments? For those of you who have requested to borrow an instrument, flag, etc. from the GT Band, we will make every effort to get you your instrument. We strongly encourage you to bring your own mouthpieces, reeds, bits, and other accessories that are hard to find. We also strongly encourage you to try and bring an instrument with you, even if you have requested one. It is likely we will not be able to fill all the requests for instruments, as the band is it's largest ever. This is particularly true for Sousaphones and Drums. We will be attempting to borrow instruments from area high schools- if you can arrange to borrow an instrument on your own from a local high school, you may have some luck. They usually are open to loaning an instrument in exchange for a small donation to the booster group. How Can I Help? We will need plenty of volunteers to do things like man tables or decorate children at the events. If are willing to help with this, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
